Which barcode should I choose?

Use EAN-13 for retail products sold in India and most countries, UPC-A for the USA and Canada, EAN-8 for very small packs, and Code 128 for your own SKUs, shipping labels, inventory and asset tags.

Can I make up my own EAN-13 number?

Not for products sold through retailers or marketplaces. EAN and UPC numbers must be licensed from GS1 (GS1 India for Indian brands) so they are unique worldwide. For internal stock, use Code 128 with your own SKU instead.

What is the check digit?

The last digit of EAN and UPC numbers is calculated from the others so scanners can catch typing mistakes. Enter the number without it and the tool adds it, or enter the full number and the tool checks it.

Will the barcode scan when printed?

The bars follow the standard encodings and keep a quiet zone on both sides. Print at 100% scale, keep good contrast (dark bars on a light background) and test a printed sample with a phone or scanner before printing in bulk.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Barcodes are drawn in your browser and downloaded as SVG or PNG files. Recent barcodes are kept only in this browser and you can clear them.
