How to scan and extract text from documents
- Upload an image (PNG, JPG, JPEG, WebP), a PDF document (up to 20 pages), or a TXT file up to 25 MB.
- Your browser performs optical character recognition (OCR) and text rendering locally on your machine.
- Review the extracted text, word counts, and detected commercial patterns (dates, totals, GSTINs, and emails).
- Use the keyword line search or export your text as a plain .TXT, structured .JSON, or spreadsheet-safe .CSV.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my sensitive business or patient data kept private?
Yes. All OCR recognition and PDF rendering run client-side in your web browser using WebAssembly. Your files and extracted text are never sent to SIRF servers or any external AI cloud API.
What file limits apply?
Files are limited to 25 MB. Multi-page PDFs are limited to 20 pages to protect your device from memory exhaustion. Extracted text is capped at 1,000,000 characters.
Why are CSV exports protected against spreadsheet formulas?
Scanned invoices and receipts often contain symbols like "=", "+", "-", or "@". To prevent CSV formula injection when opening exports in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, potentially active formula symbols at the beginning of a line are escaped as literal text cells.
Can I search specific lines within large documents?
Yes. The Line Search tab provides instant keyword matching that reports exact line numbers and matching line snippets for up to 100 results without requiring an account.
